Thursday Thoughts from Mrs. Hartman

When Jesus saw him lying there and knew he had been ill for a long time, he said to him. “Do you want to be well?”

John 5:6

As we continue to experience the holy season of Lent, we remind ourselves and our students what it really
means to be true disciples of Christ. It is not always easy because each day we are faced with many
temptations from the evil one. Sometimes we say we are followers of Jesus but our actions do not exhibit
this. Last Tuesday, Fr. Brown reminded us in his homily that just like the man in the Gospel, we may not want
to be well. Sometimes we want to hold on to our sins instead of making a change and letting them go. One
of the songs we sing at mass reminds us what it really takes to make the change that God wants:

“Give us clean hands,
Give us pure hearts,
Let us not lift our soul to another.”

During these remaining days of Lent and beyond, we are working with our students to make good choices
regarding the words that leave their mouths, the actions that come from their hands, and the thoughts they
allow to enter their minds and hearts. We are helping them take responsibility for their own actions so they
may truly be disciples of Christ. We appreciate your partnership in helping us stay true to this important
mission!

We are blessed to also be able to offer the opportunities our Catholic church offers to grow closer to Jesus.
Some students will participate in the sacrament of reconciliation, while others have the opportunity to speak
with Fr. Dave about concerns that may be weighing them down. Our NJHS will also be helping us walk the
Stations of the Cross as we prepare to journey with Jesus through his last days during Holy Week. Indeed we
are blessed to be a St. Benedict Catholic School family!
