“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
Romans 12:14-18
These words from Paul’s letter to the Romans aptly describe the lives of all the saints in heaven. Many of the saints we do not know but many we do. They are family members and friends who lived by the same qualities in this verse. They listened to and learned from the guidance of parents and teachers who believed in the same values.
As parents and teacher-ministers, we are called to help our children get to heaven. We use our Lifelong Guidelines and Lifeskills to help give our students the guidance they need to become more like the saints in their everyday lives. Students are taught and given opportunities to participate in activities that foster each Lifeskill when they meet in Family Life Groups. They meet in these cross grade level teams once a month to learn and practice together.
Using the Lifeskills at home and recognizing the positive choices your children make will help reinforce what we work on as a St. Benedict Catholic School community each day. Maybe the attached list could find a place on your refrigerator to remind students these are not just skills that are practiced at school, but at home as well. We appreciate being your partner in helping your children get to heaven and one day become a saint!
And the Winner is … The Battle of Discipline
Are you a “follow the rules” kind of person, or someone who says, “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission”? We all have something to learn about the virtue of discipline. Join us for our next Home Improvement: Family Edition next Thursday, November 9, from 6:15-7:00pm in the O’Grady Community Center (Gym).
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Thanks to all who participated in Parent Teacher and Student-led Conferences. It is vital that parents and teachers remain in communication about student progress throughout the year. Please continue to monitor your child’s progress and grades on Gradelink and reach out to teachers any time there is a question or concern. We value your input and partnership to help your child succeed.
A huge thank you to the PTO for providing a delicious dinner and yummy desserts for the faculty and staff during conferences. It is greatly appreciated!
The following announcement from Bishop Daniel Thomas regarding the administrator for Our Lady of Lourdes was recently released;
Reverend Michael O. Brown, Senior Status, has been appointed Parochial Administrator of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Toledo, effective 1 January 2018.
Since this is a temporary assignment until June 30, 2018, the Board of Trustees has asked Fr. Dave Nuss to serve as interim local superintendent until a permanent pastor is assigned. Father Dave graciously agreed! Fr. Brown will be assisting once a month at school liturgies just as Fr. Cardone has done in the past. We look forward to welcoming him in January.
THANK YOU to all who are following the requested safe morning drop off procedures. When dropping students off at the gym doors, there should be ONE line of traffic along the sidewalk. THAT ALSO MEANS CARS CANNOT PARK IN THE LINE WHILE PARENTS GET OUT TO TAKE STUDENTS INSIDE THE BUILDING. If you need to escort your child, please park in the lot and walk to the door. This helps the one lane of traffic to consistently move.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR HELP IN KEEPING OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES SAFE!
