“This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice in it and be glad.”
Psalm 118:24
MANY THANKS
Tuesday, September 19 was a gloomy, rainy day but there was plenty of SUNSHINE as we witnessed the dedication and blessing of the homes for our new neighbors. The prayers of our students were heard as the rain subsided just long enough for the ceremony and dismissal to take place.
Our National Junior Honor Society helped lead the opening prayer and escort Bishop Daniel Thomas on the tour of the Sunshine home following the ceremony. As the residents turned the corner to enter their home, they were welcomed with a huge banner and the sound of a blessing song from all the members of our student body. Their new rooms inside were easily found by the student decorated name slates hanging on each door.
While St. Benedict School played a relatively small role in the special day, it meant so much to so many. Our students are learning and internalizing the meaning of the Works of Mercy and what the Gospel of Jesus Christ calls us to be. The residents, families and staff of Sunshine Community recognize that they have a place in our neighborhood as well as the hearts of our students. And while the residents will not actually move in until early next year, this day marks the beginning of a long relationship between our school and a very special group of individuals.
The patience and understanding of our parents and grandparents during our alternate dismissal procedure is just another testimony to the partnership we share. Thank you to all for coming prepared and following the directives of our volunteers and staff (including the not so professional directing from Mrs. Hartman) to ensure the safety of all our children and families. It was a proud day for ALL!!!
CONSTRUCTION IN THE GYM
The last phase of the installation of a new HVAC unit in the O’Grady Community Center (the gym) will take place next Tuesday, September 26th. The heavy construction crew will arrive in the parking lot following morning arrival and should not impact students at all. Additionally, the gym will not be used by students or staff throughout the day. As a result, we will be blessed with a more effective and efficient cooling and heating system that will impact our school.
